About/ History

The Social Service League of La Jolla has been dedicated to providing affordable housing to seniors in San Diego for the past 70 Years.

Founded in 1929, the Social Service League of La Jolla grew out of the needs of the Great Depression and was officially incorporated in 1947. From its inception the League has provided affordable housing for those who have lived and worked in the San Diego area and who cannot otherwise afford decent housing after retirement.

The League provides subsidized rent and utilies for all residents who meet income qualifications.

In 1968 The Social Service League acquired the Darlington House in La Jolla.  The League has maintained the Darlington House and created a premier wedding and events venue with 100% of profits generated from events held at the Darlington House go to support the League’s housing.
